About

Spunjet Baby—pronounced “Sponge It Baby”—traces its origins back to 1992, when it was first founded under the name Moo Moo Cow Records. The label’s debut release was a cassette titled Frequency by Mobile Depression, distributed in and around Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Nearly a decade later, the 2001 CD release of Journey to Nowhere by Soundscape Fusion marked a turning point, with Moo Moo Cow shifting its identity and becoming known simply as the Zine.

By 2005, a new musical project called Sponge It was launched as an experimental offshoot. However, since the name was already in use elsewhere, it was soon rebranded as Spunjet Records. The idea behind this evolution was to revisit and give new purpose to a collection of unused recordings—cassettes and CD-Rs from the Moo Moo Cow years, including the Sub Frequency mixtape series. This vision came to life in the summer of 2009 with the release of the Moo Moo Cow Sample Pack and The Starters Kit.

On September 23, 2009, Spunjet.com officially went live, with the mission of building a large, collaborative archive of sound effects and music—resources designed for anyone to use, remix, and expand upon.

The project underwent another rebranding on August 1, 2015, adopting the name Spunjet Baby, under which it continues today as a passion-driven endeavor.
